Falling Uphill: One man's quest for happiness around the world on a bicycle. In one week, Scott Stoll lost his job, his best friend, his girlfriend and his confidence. Disillusioned with society, full of angst, a lost and wandering soul with nothing left to lose, Stoll asked himself a question: If I only have one life, one chance, if I could do anything, what would I do?
His answer resulted in a 4 year and 25,742 mile journey around the world by bicycle seeking answers to the great mysteries of life, vowing to find happiness or die trying. The quest wasn't easy. He was imprisoned, held hostage, mugged, run over, suspected of terrorism, accused of espionage, trampled, diseased, heartbroken—he nearly died a dozen times. But more importantly, he also discovered the wonders of the world, kindness among strangers, the meaning of life, peace, love and—Yes!—happiness, in the most unlikely places.

In 2001, Brendt Barbur, Founder and Director, was compelled to start the Bicycle Film Festival after being hit by a bus while riding his bike in New York City. Instead of being deterred by this experience, it inspired him to create a festival that celebrates the bicycle through music, art, and film. Now in its tenth year the festival is held in 37 cities worldwide. 300,000 people are expected to attend this year.

A History of Bicycles Video
As dedicated cyclists -- both urban and suburban -- will agree, the bicycle is the greatest invention of the 19th century. Susan B. Anthony said it gave new freedom to women, to go where they needed to go with just a little pedal power. (OK, she didn't say that bit about pedal power, but she would have liked it.) And bikes are still providing the most fuel-efficient means of transporation since walking for all of us. Come take a tour of the Bicycle Museum -- and follow the intriguing past, present and future of the ever-green two-wheelers.

Fellow Riders - Please help IMBA win the biggest policy battle we have taken on in our 21-year history -- to increase opportunities for mountain biking in National Parks.
National parks represent the most treasured, iconic places in America and IMBA stands ready to help build and open trails in these epic, breathtaking lands. From a policy perspective, our national parks set the bar and it is critical that they embrace mountain biking as their policies shape those of state, county, and city parks.
We only have until Feb. 18 (a week from Wednesday) to submit comments, and five national organizations have waged an all out battle to defeat this proposed rule. Visit IMBA(dot)com and file your comments today! (Deadline Feb. 18)
