Winter's here finally, all
cold, dark and dreary, and I don't ride when it's below 30. So
that gives me way too much time on my hands. That in mind, I thought
I'd take this opportunity to share some of my surgical x-rays with
you.

So, here's the best,
first. This is my leg. Well, this was my leg, with my femur
in three pieces. I've still got the same leg, just without
all this cool hardware in it. Thirteen screws, one plate,
two pieces of wire. Check out that big honker screwed into
the ball in the femur up top! (Click on the image for a
bigger shot) A freak accident, riding at about 2 mph, turning
around in the park. REMEMBER, don't put any torque on you
leg if you're crashing. Bad, very bad.

This is the same leg,
just a side shot (negative). That IS a nasty screw up top!!
Oh, my . . . looks like a zipper up there too. No more
babies for me.
So, all of the hardware
came out after a year and it's all sitting in my closet
(except for the wires <sigh>).
The scar is pretty
cool too, at about 12.25 inches.

So much for
the old leg. On to the most common cycling injury, the broken collarbone.
Not real bad, but hey, a broken bone is a broken bone.
 |
The weird thing about
this was when they "set" it. They gave me some
stuff that didn't make it hurt any less, it just made me
forget the screaming and kicking I did when they "set
it" without anethesia.

Yawn.
Same thing,
different view.

Wow, wasn't
that great? I'm still trying to get some other surgical pictures
to put up here. One of our club just had neck surgery and has a
cool scar from that I'd like to show along with some x-rays. Someone
else had this nasty bowel surgery and some pictures from that (but
that may be going too far).
